An EMBODIED vs DIRECTIVE approach to practice

❓ What is en EMBODIED vs DIRECTIVE approach to practice?

➡️ One offers FORM & the other offers FREEDOM within the FORM

🌱 An embodied approach teaches you to listen to your body, to ask questions & get curious

🌱 It allows you to map out new movements & build body awareness.

🌱 In this approach, it does not matter that you are getting it wrong or right

🌱 In this approach you are in charge

DIRECTIVE

Simon Says reach your arm forward, Simon Says draw your hip back………you know the rest

or

EMBODIED

  • Bring your hands onto your belly, feel, sense of imagine your hands as representing a wheel within your pelvis.

  • Now notice the length from your tail bone to the crown of your head.

  • As you inhale, lengthen, as you exhale, turn the wheel a few degrees & allow your spine to follow.

  • Move in and out.

  • Notice how the further the wheel turns, the more your spine needs to support

  • Find a rotation of the wheel that feels good to you & pause

  • Release the bottom arm downwards - you could rest the hand on the leg, a chair, a block, or a wall

  • Uncurl the top arm to the sky, open & close a few times, paying attention the to opening of the body

  • Find a place for your spine that feels good to you & pause
