About Charlotte

With over 13 years’ experience teaching breath and movement, many disciplines inform my work, which focuses on a practice of slow exploratory and mindful movement as a way to build internal awareness and a firm sense of self.

I offer an approach that blends together the ancient techniques of yoga with contemplative somatic movement principles and practices all through the model of Shared Inquiry.

Shared Inquiry is a model that actively engages the student in their own experiential learning, it gives the student the ability to answer the question “what do I feel and where do I feel it when I do a movement or posture?” This helps the student to learn how to attune to their own internal awareness, to notice and read the signals of their body, to pay attention to them and, even more importantly, to know what to do with them.

Built on the principles of curiosity, exploration and self inquiry, it is a practice that aims to cultivate a sense of self trust and personal agency.

The therapeutic practices of Hatha Yoga and Somatic Movement are interwoven as a way to connect the mind and body with moment to moment awareness.

It is an approach that combines both top down and bottom up processes, through this the student learns to toggle between thinking and feeling, sensing and moving and can find ways to attune into the moment, just as it is, without judgement.

My practice has evolved to incorporate a combination of

  • Slow mindful movements to hydrate, relax and activate the deep layers of muscles and fascia,

  • Strength and mobility work to build and develop inner stability,

  • Breath practices to regulate and support the nervous system,

  • Mindfulness to support emotional resilience.

Charlotte’s yoga classes truly meet you where you are at. You bring your whole self to the class and take what your body needs, individually, no judgment. Her thoughtful and compassionate teaching style always leaves me feeling restored.
Charlotte creates a space for deep self inquiry in a respectful and safe manner.

Two central themes that run through my practice are Compassion and Curiosity, it is important to remember that the way that you move and breathe is a pattern, more often than not a pattern that was created in response to what was needed for survival. These patterns, whilst they may be the cause of discomfort or pain, they are not the bad guys. They are there to support you, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

My belief is that in order to find safety in the body, we need to be able to navigate our own internal maps, to understand their function, their purpose and to hold them without judgement. It is an approach that is accessible and inclusive to all, it is an approach that meets you, where ever you are.

Only when we view ourselves through the lens of compassion then can we see the brilliance that is the human body and its design, and that through learning to sense and feel into our inner world, we can start to make changes, to build new patterns and new maps.
